Mucho se habla en el exilio cubano de la falta de unidad como el mal que nos debilita frente al despotismo castrista. Es una verdad a medias porque el pueblo cubano está unido en lo fundamental: una democracia para Cuba.
En este 10 de octubre la Asociación Cubana en República Dominicana se reunió para honrar la memoria de nuestros patriotas de ayer y de hoy. En ese país, tierra de Máximo Gómez y del Manifiesto de Montecristi, el deseo de la libertad y la democracia de Cuba están por encima de cualquier diferencia política o partidaria. Entre ellos: “Dígase cubano y se ha dicho todo”.
El presidente de la Asociación Cubana, Ramón Valdez, dió la bienvenida a los presentes. Cecilio Vásquez, miembro del Alpha 66 y uno de los
fundadores de la Asociación Cubana evocó la memoria de Laura Pollán y
pidió a los presentes mantener vivo el amor a la patria, a sus mártires y a sus
raíces cubanas. Varios miembros del CID que también forman parte de la Asociación Cubana participaron en el encuentro, entre ellos su delegado Ángel Bueno y Edell Escalante Martínez.
